About me

My name is Joey.
The Other Plan didn’t come from theory or training.
It came from experience.
I’ve spent years moving through very different environments — working offshore on oil rigs, serving in the fire service in Scotland, travelling across the world, and building a business from the ground up.
I’ve worked in high-risk environments.
High-pressure environments.
And in places where men don’t talk — they just carry it.
I’ve also spent time working with and rescuing animals in different parts of the world — from rhinos in Africa to building shelters for stray dogs in Eastern Europe.
Very different settings, but the same pattern shows up everywhere.
Pressure.
Responsibility.
And very little space.
I’ve spent a lot of time moving through different landscapes as well — from the Alps in Europe to the wilderness of Zimbabwe and the Rocky Mountains in Canada. Not as a challenge or achievement, just as part of how I’ve lived and worked. It gives you a different sense of scale, pace, and what actually matters when things are stripped back.
No matter where you are, the routine builds.
And the distance to step back from it disappears.
Spending time in completely different environments — far from "normal life" — gives you a different view of things. Not because someone explains it to you, but because you’re outside of it long enough to see it properly.
Most men don’t get that.
Even the ones who are doing well.
Handling responsibility.
Building something.
Keeping everything moving.
From the outside, it looks solid.
But there’s rarely space to step back — or anyone to properly share it with.
The Other Plan exists to create that space.
It’s not therapy.
It’s not coaching.
And it’s not about pushing limits.
It’s a simple, practical weekend in the Scottish outdoors — where routine, phones, noise, and constant input are removed for a short time.
The structure is straightforward.
Movement.
Fresh air.
Proper food.
Quiet.
You don’t get told what to think.
You don’t get asked to share.
But when you step away from everything you’re used to — even briefly — things tend to look different.
I don’t claim to fix anyone.
I just create the conditions.
What you take from it is entirely up to you.
I’m also fully trained in Outdoor Emergency First Aid, so the practical side of being out there is covered.
