FAQ
How does a typical weekend look?
We meet at 9am on Saturday at the agreed meeting point.
Quick health & safety briefing. No long speeches. Then we start walking.
Every weekend is different. The route depends on the weather and the ability of the group. We adapt as we go. No two trips are the same — that’s the point.
What do we eat?
You’ll be supplied with water and some sugary drinks (Coca-Cola etc.) to keep energy levels up.
We stop regularly for tea, coffee and plenty snacks.
Saturday afternoon we’ll stop for a simple lunch — usually something like a cup of soup, meat board etc
Once we choose our camping spot, we cook dinner together. Think proper food — fresh butcher burgers, steaks and similar.
Sunday morning is porridge/pancakes or fresh eggs from local farmer....
Sunday afternoon is a pub lunch — included in the price.
Proper high quality food, sourced across the UK and Europe.
You won’t go hungry.
How far will we walk?
It depends on the weather and the group.
Some weekends it might be 3 miles across the whole trip.
Some weekends it might be 10.
We’re not chasing distance. We’re out to enjoy it.
Is the trip going ahead in all weather?
Yes — unless there is a amber or higher weather warning.
If that happens, we reschedule. Safety first. Always.
What do I need to bring?
Keep it simple:
-
Outdoor clothing
-
Proper walking boots/shoes (no trainers)
-
Spare T-shirts
-
Jumper for sleeping
-
In winter: a warm hat for night time
You’ll be given a backpack with all food and equipment for the weekend.
You carry it.
You hand it back at the end.
Email with suggested clothing and all information will be sent a week or so before the trip.
Where do I park my car?
You can park at a dedicated car park — either at the pub where we’ll have Sunday lunch or at the relevant estate car park.
Full details will be emailed to you a few days beforehand.
There’s nothing to worry about.
Just turn up and enjoy.
Can I bring my own tent?
No.
We use two large shared tents.
You’re welcome to bring your own sleeping bag if you prefer.
Can I bring my phone?
Yes.
But it stays on airplane mode for the duration of the trip.
This is about switching off.
What safety procedures are in place?
We have agreements with the relevant estates and their rangers/shepherds. They know where we are at all times.
We never camp far from the nearest village.
We carry a GPS tracking device with emergency call-out at the touch of a button.
We also have 4 networks SIM.
We’re not climbing Munros.
All routes are publicly accessible and safe.
You’re off grid — not off the map.
How do our families know we’re safe?
Before the weekend, each participant will receive an emergency contact number for family members to use if needed.
We may also share occasional updates on our social media during the weekend, so those at home know the group is safe and everything is running as planned.
What time do we finish on Sunday?
We aim to finish mid-afternoon after lunch.
Exact timing depends on the route and the group, but you’ll be back at your car at a sensible time.
We won’t drag it out.
How many people are on each weekend?
Maximum of 8 men.
Small group. No crowds. No cliques.
Everyone pulls their weight. Everyone is involved.
Do I need to be super fit?
No.
You need to be reasonably healthy and able to walk for a few hours at a steady pace.
We’re not racing.
We’re not competing.
But you do need to be able to carry your pack.
What if I don’t have any outdoor experience?
That’s absolutely fine.
This whole thing is designed for the average guy — not a professional mountain climber.
Yes, sometimes we’ll walk up hills.
No, we’re not climbing Munros.
If you can walk and you’re reasonably fit, you’ll be fine.
Who is allowed to participate?
Any man aged 18 or over who needs a bit of space in the middle of nowhere with seven other guys he has never met.
That’s the beauty of it.
You might turn up knowing no one —
and leave with friends for life.
Is alcohol allowed?
No.
This weekend is about a clear head — not a drunken one.
It’s about proper conversations, proper rest and waking up feeling good.
If you’re looking for a lads’ drinking trip, this isn’t it.
What if I’m vegetarian or vegan?
You’re more than welcome to join us.
You’ll just need to provide your own food, as we can’t take responsibility for specific dietary requirements.
What if I need to leave early?
Once we start walking, we’re committed to the route.
This isn’t a drop-in, drop-out event.
It works because everyone commits to the full weekend.
What happens if I need the toilet?
We’re outdoors.
We follow simple, respectful wild practices and leave no trace.
You’ll be shown how we handle it properly.
Can I book with a friend?
Yes.
You can come with a mate — or come alone.
Either way, the group mixes naturally.
What The Other Plan Is Really About
This isn’t survival.
It isn’t extreme.
And it isn’t a drinking weekend dressed up as adventure.
It’s simple.
Eight men.
Fresh air.
Phones off.
Clear heads.
You walk. You eat proper food. You talk if you want to.
Or you don’t.
No pressure.
No performance.
No pretending.
Just space — the kind most men don’t realise they need until they get it.
You arrive as strangers.
You leave different.
That’s The Other Plan.
